I just found your site, and have spent the last hour having a read. I’ve long had a love for NZ, after spending a few months backpacking around after college (nearly 20 years ago). You mentioned Kaitaia in a post about selling avacados… I got to spend a month in Kaitaia… one of my favourite places on the planet.
